Pregnant women are forbidden to use antibiotics (especially the latest generation), as they have a negative impact on the development of the fetus. The most dangerous stage is the first half of pregnancy. For example, scientists have determined that if a mother was treated during pregnancy with two courses of antibiotics, then there is a chance that the child will get asthma. There is a register of drugs that can be prescribed during pregnancy, but there are also those that can not be taken during this period in any case. For example, fluoroquinalones affect the growth of the child’s bone system and later become the cause of all sorts of pathologies. The tetracyclines include tetracycline and doxycycline. Tetracyclines pass through the placenta to the fetus and can be deposited in the developing tubular bones and teeth. Deposits in the teeth lead to their staining from yellow to dark brown. There were also defects in molten teeth, an increased tendency to caries, inhibition of growth and cataracts due to deposits in the lens. Among the features of additional maternal risk, there are frequent cases of fatty liver, as well as nephropathy when treated with tetracycline during pregnancy. Therefore, tetracyclines should never be prescribed to pregnant women after the 5th week of pregnancy. Termination of pregnancy in connection with treatment with tetracycline with the above-described symptoms for children’s indications is not carried out, since defects in the proper sense in the treatment with tetracycline have not yet been unambiguously proven. Ciprofloxacin, levofloxacin, norfloxacin, and ofloxacin inhibit bacterial topoisomerase (Gyrase). The use of gyrase inhibitors in pregnant women, children and adolescents is contraindicated as a precaution.
